Using the NHS Fit For Travel website and the invaluable help of our GP Surgery Nurse Practitioners, we drew up the list below of all the vaccinations we would require (including costs). We started this process 6 months before our planned leaving date in order to ensure we had sufficient time to complete the necessary regime of injections and tablets. We need to remember to organise booster shots in 12 months time which we hope to arrange in Australia.
For malaria, we used the below data to calculate where and when we needed to take precautions and therefore how many tablets we would require. We decided to buy these before we left, the cheapest supplier we could find was TravelPharm.
Caroline, being a qualified paramedic, will take care of our day-to-day health and deal with any illnesses or injuries on the way. To help with this, we will be taking an extensive first aid kit which contains a everything from plasters and paracetamol to a generic antibiotic (obtained via our GP), sterile needles and a bag of saline fluid.
